It doesn’t star Ashton Kutcher, and it isn’t written by Aaron Sorkin, but it might be more interesting than both: it’s the Japanese manga adaptation of Steve Jobs’ life. You could be forgiven for thinking that the juice has been squeezed out of this particular story, following 2011’s official biography by Walter Isaacson and a brace of upcoming movies — but if ever there were a medium that can put a new spin on an old tale, a manga series would be it. Today’s publication of Mari Yamazaki’s Steve Jobs, then, is a somewhat notable event. The first volume is now available in the May 2013 issue of girls’ comic anthology Kiss, oddly enough, and it’s quite unlike anything I’ve read before.

Facebook reportedly planning friend-finding app that will track your location

Facebook is developing its own mobile location tracker, Bloomberg reports. According to two anonymous sources, the company hopes to expand its current tracking system (which currently allows for check-ins and geotagged posts) into a separate app that would track user location in the background and allow them to do things like find friends. From these early reports, it sounds much like Google’s Latitude, Apple’s Find My Friends, or other similar always-on location services.

Upon first launch, the app guides you through its navigation and features: swipe to the left to generate a new pattern; swipe right to view a previous pattern; then tap to save, export or share your results. Back in 2009, before Apple purchased Siri, Verizon wanted to bring the app to its range of Android smartphones. The carrier signed a contract with the startup behind the voice assistant to preinstall it on all Droid handsets, and even went so far as to shoot commercials touting the feature, but Apple’s buyout resulted in the deal being scrapped. By purchasing the company, Apple not only secured the rights to what is now an iconic feature of Apple’s iOS products, but also prevented its biggest rival brand in the smartphone space from including similar functionality in its handsets.
